May Day button April 30 2013

May Day is tomorrow. If you live in Canada you may think that Labour Day is the big day for workers, but May 1st is known as International Workers Day. It was started after the Haymarket Affair in Chicago in 1886, and continues to this day across the globe!

This May Day pin-back button reads “Shouldn’t you be able to actually live on minimum wage? $10/hour now!” International Workers Day is a great time to see lots of different May Day buttons.

Minimum wage is now over $10 per hour in most parts of Canada, however with the high cost of living in places like Toronto, people are fighting for minimum wage to be raised to $14 per hour.

How are you celebrating May Day?
